I personally am very impartial to chunky sweater-coats. I wore heck out of Bonfire cardigan that I got last year and was drawn to this year's Snowden for the same reason: an easy piece to throw over the jeans and tee and be out of the door. Unfortunately by th tem I decided I need one , all my sore carried were XL and they looked huge on the table. I did not try it on as I am usually XS/S. With the last promo I bit and got S ( there were no XS left during last 30% off promo) and I have to be honest with you; I am dubious about my purchase. There are pros and cons.

Pros; very nice design idea - modern shape and pretty marled yarn, substantial weight, promises to be warm and cozy.

Cons; seriously oversized. It is a big coat as it is ( at least it was perceived that way by whomever the creator is) , but even then it's pretty big. I got S and I could have easily gotten into XXS( did it come in that size?). Good news that S is still wearable as the purchase was FS for me. I did scout internet in hopes that one of my lovely fellow bloggers had IRL pic and I found none.SO if you have the pics, chime in, I'll link your site as well. Second con is acrylic content- I hate artificial yarn. Had JCrew executed this version in chunky cotton or merino, they would have had a sure winner. The sweater sheds the hairs and fuzzes up like crazy. I had a misfortune of wearing black tee and leggings under and in a minute I looked like I was attacked by a gang cats- log hair all over me, in clumps.Yuck. I am cautious to wear smooth lighter tees under and shiny black leggings, so nothing sticks to me.

I do too, but cannot justify paying $$ for a trendy pair of shoes that will look funny next year. I found these instead at my local Nordstrom Rack:

OOTD 12/3/2011 - attended our local theater musical with my eldest.

Dr. Doolitle at Imagination Stage, Bethesda, MD

I was very surprised to learn that the tale of Russian Dr. Aybolit that I grew up with was nothing but poorly copied version of Dr. Doolittle. It was hilarious that my eldest picked up on it too. He saw a Russian cartoon of Dr. Aybolit many times before.

There was another Russian fmaily sitting closely to us ( quite by chance) and I heard my son whispering to the girl next to him halfway through performance," Can't you see, this is quite like our Dr.Aybolit, but an American version," lol! He got it backwards, but still....

My apologies for the review long overdue. I have ordered these 2 skirts back {gasp!} in August and only the fact that Gigi just posted review of f the two-tone circle skirt ( see it here) prompted me to get my act together and chime in.:)

First one up is infamous two-tone circle skirt.

Here is a Collection editorial, how smart the girl looks, eh? Cute.

My usual scrutiny begins:

Wrapped in cellophane, no fancy packing

Content: 69% wool, 26%nylon, 2%acrylic, read the rest.. Made in China.

Tag is white ( vs. Collection black) .Ordered my usual sz 4.

Here is on me with a fancy footwork:

If you look closely it hits me just below knee, as on a model, but I am short. The reason is that hers sits lower on hips and mine is all the way up on the waist. It runs slightly smaller. I buttoned this one, all right, but it was a tight call.

Now onto details: slant pockets,nice shirring without added bulk

Unfinished seam, but that did not bother me at all. Most of felted wool pieces J Crew produced came with unfinished edges. Material does not fray and in this case, I thought it was an element of design. Had they placed seam on the underside, the lower part would not lay flat and would bulk away from the camel fabric.

Lining is 100% acetate, again, grateful it's present. Overall fabric feels nice and substantial,colors are pretty, the flow of the skirt is beautiful and it would feel great to wear a skirt like this in winter.

I personally liked this skirt. Once it goes on sale, I will consider getting one. It's fun, it's elegant, it's warm; can be worn Fall to early Spring. I have added it to my Wishlist, what about you?

Product Review- J Crew Winterlude Blazer

We've taken the bulk out of cold-weather dressing and replaced it with a beautifully tailored blazer that's as chic as it is warm. We love the versatile indoor-or-outdoor nature of this perfectly polished piece, crafted in a luxuriously soft winter-weight wool with a wonderful texture (it's fully lined for even more cozy comfort). Back seaming creates a soft line and a lovely fitted, feminine silhouette. Wool/nylon. Lapel collar. Long sleeves. Patch pockets. Fully lined. Hits at hip. Part of J.Crew Collection. Import. Dry clean.

This was one of the few Collection items that got me excited this season. The reviews for other 2 Collection skirts are long overdue, but maybe I'll get to them one day.
What sold me on this jacket was the Collection editorial (this one):

Ohh, the plush look and seeming softness of the fabric, the easy elegance of color, timeless silhouette- this one was destined to become a winner, right? Wrong... I was very disappointed ( sorry DaniBP, I know you liked this piece and it did look darling on you). This Collection item was all wrong for me for a multitude of reasons, but I am jumping ahead of myself.
First, the pacakging. Blazer arrived packaged in a simple cellophane:

Not a big deal, but I yearn for the times when J Crew hand packaged their special Collection pieces in a pretty box with a ribbon ( it's been awhile, see here).

Right out of the plastic, I went for the touch and feel. The fabric was plush, but in a prickly sort of way. It did look much softer in a pic. Not surprising though, considering content. Nylon? Hmmm. Why?

Not to be discouraged, I was thinking to self..

Then the quality controller in me checked in and inch by inch the detailed examination had begun.
Standard Collection black tag and reinforced chain hanging hook, nice. Check!

Cute horn buttons, nice quality, unobtrusive. Another check!

Lining- 100% polyester, thank you, at least there is one. It's plain . My old Lexington has beautiful piping and pretty color incorporated. Sigh..Nothing remotely like that here.

First surprise: the security tag was cut off. Ouch, return? That put me in a frantic mood as I rushed to check pockets for the used napkin; there was none. Whew, that was close..

But the pocket was torn, darn:

Ooh, look closer, seams are coming apart. Already?

Not in one, but few places:

Sleeve had a lining of different color for some reason, polyester also:

At this point, I already made up my mind that I was not impressed with a quality of the garment. But I put it to the final test of trying it on. Maybe, the fit was to be divine so all the flaws could be overlooked?

I looked like a fuzzy sofa. Big and cozy, and so so grandma chic.:)

I am trying hard, still trying to make it work.

At the end, I failed miserably. Alas, this jacket and I were not meant to be.

I am seriously suspecting DaniBP must have tried a different version of it, because hers looks so great on, check it here. Maybe it's my stocky frame (she is tall and lanky and oh so pretty in it).

So take these 2 very different reviews of the same item with a grain of salt and use it for what it's worth. I am curious though, what others thought of the jacket?

My baby boy is turning big 2 today! Where did the time go? As I am trying fervently to hold in vain to the fleeting seconds, I realize I can't... The only consolation I am left with is that there will be future marvel moments to come. Sigh.. Such a destiny of humans , to grow forward and not backward. Unless, of course, you name is Benjamin Button.:)

I tried both sale colors on; fit is TTS. Huge thumbs up to a flattering midi length and lovely a-line flirty shape. Silk felt smooth and heavy , fully lined. Thankfully it does not flare from the waist thus adding bulk, so it's going to look great on many body types. Tried sz 4 in both.

Bottom line: recommend as a fun feminine skirt. I preferred a nave version for itsversatility.

Congratulations to a beautiful Summer ( of SumSunshine blog) on her nuptials. The time, place, setting, atmosphere were just perfect.When I think of the autumnal weddings, I think of season' riches; lace, golds, sparkle, elegance and beauty. Summer's special day was nothing short of pectacular and I was so thrilled to be able to share it with her.

Just picked up this lovely skirt for a bargain at my local B&M store. Love the heavyweight flannel, the color scheme and the fit. I will be adding to my next month P333 switch, but cold not resist wearing it right away, lol!
While my usual sz 4 felt fine, sz 6 felt better- I have a high waist, so I like to sit skirts a bit lower, and sz 6 did just that.

We reimagined our cream-of-the-crop café capri in a lovely heritage houndstooth wool that's an absolute have-to-have this season. We sourced it from Scotland's storied Robert Noble mill (est. 1666), known for their world-class woolen fabrics. Contour waistband. Belt loops. Zip fly. Slant pockets, back welt pockets. Fully lined. Import. Dry clean.
City fit—our lowest rise.
Sits just above hip.
Fitted through hip and thigh, with a skinny, cropped leg.
27" inseam with 1 1/4" cuffs.

I was impressed with these pants. The wool felt warm and thick ( albeit a bit scartchy ), cut was flattering on my hourglass shape, and fit was TTS. Full lining is an added bonus. I have tried them in sz 4.

Jester sweater

An update to the classic argyle sweater, rendered in an intricate allover pattern with a sophisticated color palette that our designers are mad about. Coming or going, it's a modern take on our favorite fall pattern. Merino in a 14-gauge knit. V-neck. Three-quarter sleeves. Hits at hip. Import. Dry clean.

I was impressed with this item as well. I am normally not a fan of 14-gauge, prefer the12, but this sweater did not feel too thin. The colors were lovely and I prefered a fitted cropped look. I can see the shortness of it being a problem for a taller person, I am 5'5" and t was proportionate for my height. I tried sz S as XS would have been too tight.

Project 333/ Month 1- how was it for me?

As you have noticed, I have made it through my first month of Project 333. Yey!
I was first introduced to the idea of it through a fellow blogger, Lisab ( see the PV set that piqued my interest here). The idea was simple and worth trying: do more with less. I did try shopping diets before( it would usually coincide with me being mad at JCrew , lol!) and as many, I succeeded some and failed some. Instead of yo-yo shopping habits, Project 333 offered a healthy alternative: shop , have fun, but do so conscientiously.

Where did I start? with regrouping and reorganizing my entire closet (read how to at the original P333 website). That's how my closet looked for awhile as I diligently sorted clothes into love/like/don't know what I was thinking piles.

It took me a good month to sort, pack, and pick 33 key pieces ( plus bonus 3, I admit). For the first phase I only chose the clothing items, not including outerwear, shoes or accessories. Here is how my final list shaped up:

Ten boxes later, my closet thanked me. It could finally breathe. And so could I.

So, where do I stand with the whole experience? I love it. I thought I'd never make it through, but it was effortless.
I love the best that I could come up with the entire outfit in less then 5 minutes. I am a moody person and like my clothes to reflect my feelings. I have created plenty sets at PV ( and suspect I did not even tap a tip of the iceberg), so picking and choosing one is a breeze. Or improvising on the spot for that matter.
Everything is accessible and ready to go. I do iron and launder weekly, but I would have done it anyway.
The wardrobe is harmoniously paired in terms of color palette and seasonal styles, pieces mix and match easily.
Another interesting observation is that my appetite for new items was curbed significantly. I can never escape the memory of the x amount of grey sweaters ( some were still with tags) that I packed away; or enormous quantity of graphic tees that I forgot I had. I still love trying new things, but I am less compelled to buy. There is a new standard that firmly placed itself in my mind: item has to fit perfectly, the quality must be superb and it must fulfill a distinctive need within my working wardrobe. So far only 2 items from the fall collection met the challenge; the waterfloral scarf in lovely purple palette and cords in bright flame color.

So, wish me luck; there are 2 more months to go for the phase I. I want to be able to sustain my sunny outlook on this project.:) What do you think of it? Sound compelling or repelling?

OOTD 9.29.2011. My dress is by Patricia Pepe (no PV pic, found a close substitute), I absolutely love it but wear rarely. The print is spectacular, the fit is very feminine and I love pleats at the back. Another interesting feature is the oversized stand up collar, it looks cute peeking from under the collarless denim jacket.

OOTD 9.22.2011. Lunch in DC (love metro-muting, can read a book on a way) with a colleague.

Got Rialta on a cheap awhile back, love the fabic and cut, but sad to report the unfinished edges are NOT an advantage despite what J Crew's copywriter from space may want you to believe. I have to carry small manicure scissors and trim the flyaway strands on a clock. Can't imagine paying full price for this so called "vintage feel, we did it on purpose" design. True annoyance.

Our handsome borrowed-from-the-boys oxfords refashioned in summer-ready canvas. The stacked heel and exterior platform keep the walking easy (and flatter the leg to no end). Leather lining and sole. 3 3/4" matte stacked heel with a 3/8" exterior platform for extra comfort. Made in Italy.

Well, I consider them a perfect fall shoe even though they were initially released in spring and geared towards summer. I wore them all day today for the first time and found them supremely comfortable. Leather lining ( super smooth and soft inside) and sole are a nice touch. Small platform takes off a foot strain and the not overly high heel is quite comfortable to walk. I did run for a bit today and my feet did not complain. Laces appear to be made of leather and are super cute. Canvas is sturdy and should hold well with wear.

When the collection was first released, there was clearly much "ooh" and "ahh" going on around . Frankly, we all got a little bit excited when we saw a beautiful advert with a dreamy model stacking up on this eye candy, eh?

As many stores did not offer the good/or any selection ( I was not left immune to the charms), I have ordered a few pieces to try out. My eager anticipation turned into a slight disappointment. Pieces were pretty, but colors were not true for the most part. The cider had a greenish undertone, beautiful red was more pink than orange, green and yellow colors were somewhat flat and one- dimensional. Pieces were lightweight, which you'd think is an advantage since the purpose is to stack them on, but somehow they felt cheap and plasticky. Finally, they were big, really big. I could easily slide them almost up to the elbow and I am not petite by any means. So the high price did not translate into quality for me. There is a pic of green deco earrings in there somewhere too- I loooove long and dangly, but those just did not deliver. So, back the entire collection went.

If I had to name one item that worth it's weight in gold, it had to be a trolley trench. The purchase made on a whim last year turned out the best outerwear investment I made. I wore it non-stop in spring and now, when weather has turned to be a malicious diva ( can you imagine going from full summer to rainy fall in a snap?), this is my go-to piece. Love it!
